2023 Natural Disaster Report-So Far

This year, it seems as though there is a natural disaster in the news every few days. This year, from summer storms to flooding to tornadoes, the severe weather has been exactly that: severe.

Let’s break down the major natural disasters this year according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.

With most natural disaster events falling under “severe weather,” it is important to note what that entails.

Flooding, property destruction, strong winds, and heavy rains come with severe weather. All these components create dangerous situations and the potential for accidents.

When it comes to bouncing back from natural disasters, local governments and citizens must work together to build back their communities. Combining the resources and resilience of emergency management groups and individual citizens can decrease the recovery time.

Ensuring local governments have funding and resources for recovering from natural disasters is vital as the cost can increase to billions.

Work with your local CERT teams, MRC groups, emergency managers, and local government officials to prepare for severe weather.
