What is Community Risk Reduction Week?

Thursday January 19, 2023

Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Week is a grass-roots effort by an informal group of fire safety professionals from across the nation to promote awareness of CRR within the fire service. The goal is to build healthy, safe, resilient communities by reducing the occurrence and impact of fires and other emergency events for community members and responders. The first CRR Week was held in 2008, following a landmark meeting of hundreds of experts from across the nation, organized by Vision 20/20, to discuss the gaps in fire prevention.

During CRR Week, individuals and organizations can take steps to expand CRR in their communities. This can include educating the public about fire safety, conducting home safety visits, and advocating for more resources to devote to fire prevention. It is important to remember that CRR is a locally-driven effort, so it is best to design a campaign that meets your community's specific needs.

ProPac USA, a disaster preparedness company that provides items to fire departments and other government agencies, aligns with CRR Week by providing necessary resources to emergency responders and organizations to help them in their efforts to reduce community risks. Our focus on providing essential equipment and supplies to emergency responders directly supports the goal of CRR to build healthy, safe, and resilient communities.
